Estimate your face shape

How to tell your face shape in a mirror

Pull your hair back off your forehead and ears and look straight ahead with a neutral face, in a mirror or at a phone held at eye level about an arm's length away. A close selfie makes the middle of the face look wider. Then check three things: which part is widest, whether your face is clearly longer than it is wide, and whether the jaw corners are sharp or soft.

If two rows fit, read both pages: most faces sit between two shapes, and the cuts listed for them overlap. Hair texture, thickness and how much time you spend on it matter as much as the outline.

The notes on each haircut were checked against StyleSeat's face-shape guide for women's cuts and Man of Many's barber guide for men's cuts, on 22 October 2026.
