Braided hairstyles
Braids you do yourself and braids a stylist puts in, with photos from every side and what to ask for.
Braids split into the ones you do yourself and the ones a stylist puts in. The French Braid is one braid down the back, with the strands crossed over so it lies flat, in five to ten minutes. Two Dutch Braids cross the strands under instead, so each braid sits raised along the head; they take ten to twenty minutes and hold for a few days with a silk scarf at night. Wednesday Addams Braids are two plain braids from a sharp centre part, starting low behind the ears.
Feed-in Cornrows and Knotless Box Braids are put in by a stylist with extension hair. Feed-in cornrows run straight back from the hairline and start thin; four to six of them take one to two hours and last two to three weeks. Knotless box braids hang free from square parts, take five to six hours and last six to eight weeks. For both, ask for no tension at the edges.
Two-strand twists are often listed with braids, but they twist two strands instead of braiding three, so they have their own page.
